Reconstruction, Milling and Resurfacing of SW 1st Street in Miami-Dade County

Client:
FDOT – District 6
Location:
Miami, Florida
Service:
Transportation Engineering
Project Overview
This project consisted of plan preparations for the reconstruction, milling and resurfacing of SW 1st Street in Miami-Dade County, as well as the reconstruction of a highly urbanized roadway section through Little Havana, in the City of Miami, from SW 17th Avenue to SW 6th Avenue (MP0.825 – MP1.954). The project required new drainage, extensive utility coordination, and utility relocation. Our engineers paid special attention to “Complete Streets” principles in balancing the needs of motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists, while incorporating parking and landscaping. Extensive public involvement was utilized to develop a Temporary Traffic Control Plan during construction that minimized residential and business impacts by limiting the construction to specific areas of the corridor and moving progressively to maintain residential and business access.
